Once considered improper, it was gradually accepted and played by Uruguayans of all walks of life, especially during carnival. More than 200 years young, the sounds of drums still resonates in Montevideo and the rest of the nation, proof that candombe constitutes an integral part of Uruguayan culture. Uruguay,(pop: 3 million), is a small country located in South America, bordered by its two massive neighbors, Brazil(pop: 170 million) to the East and North, and Argentina(pop: 36 million) to the West and South. This rhythm traveled to Uruguay from Africa with black slaves, and is still going strong in the streets in the uruguayan cities and in the last years in the most important cities of Brasil and Argentina to. Candombe Foever has been shring the spirit of Uruguay with audiences throughout the Washington DC metro area since Dicember 2003. T Candombe Forever strives to teach the extraordinary rhythms of Uruguay to aspiring drummers of all ages. Candombe Forever has attracted attention from well-repected performers throughout the world, including Master of Candombe Waldemar ¨Cachila¨ Silva, of C1080 Candombe Group and of the ¨Candombe Tango Negro¨ which played at Gala Theater during the Summer of 2004, Master of Candombe Daniel ¨Tatita¨ Marquez reto teach and perform in ] Howard university in Washington DC and Eugenia Silveyra Chirimini Master Teacher of Candombe Dance and performer. Candombe Forever has become a beloved fixture at venues throughout the region, including Karma Restaurant , October 2004, Gallerie Michelle, November 2004 in Alexandria, Virginia and has been awarded first prize, together sith a group of drummers and dancers representing Uruguay, for best group at the Columbus Day Parade in New York City on October 12, 2004. Since then Candombe Forever has played at events at the Inter American Development Bank, the Uruguayan Embassy, Washington Latin Festival, Woeld Bank Group ¨Celebration of Cultures¨ Uruguayan School Ship ¨Capitán Miranda¨, Howard University, Government of Baltimore in the Baltimore International Festival, Army Fort Lesley J.
